Derventio eXcel "Young Guns" win at National Masters 2010

It was the turn of the older generation of DX to become the young guns in the ASA British Gas National Masters and Senior Age Group Championships at Ponds Forge this weekend.

The lads came home with 20 medals between them. With a lot of racing this weekend, they were able to race fast getting in plenty of race practice.

All 4 lads competed together in numerous relays and won medals in all. They won GOLD in the 72yrs + category (based on combined age of all swimmers) in the 400m Medley team in a time of 3.47.58, GOLD in the 200m Freestyle team in a time of 1.34.76, GOLD in the 400m Freestyle team in a time of 3.29.75 and GOLD in the 800m Freestyle team in a time of 7.40.33. The DX relay team achieved times faster than the British record on all 4 winning relay swims. DX Head Coach Andi Manley also competed in the relays taking a SILVER (400m medley relay) and BRONZE (200m freestyle relay).

The lads continued their fine form in the individual events too.

JAMES LOVATT, former Derventio eXcel Captain and Loughborough University graduate swam to 3 GOLD medals in the 18-24 yrs category in the 100m Freestyle, 50m Fly and 100m I.M.

Zichen Liu swam to 2 GOLD's in the 18-24 yrs category in the 200m Backstroke (going under the british record time) in 1.59.82, 100m Back (going under the British record time) of 54.92. He also won a SILVER medal in the 200m I.M.

CHRIS STEEPLES DX Captain and GB international won 2 GOLD medals in the 18-24 yrs category in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke, SILVER in the 50m Breaststroke, BRONZE in the 200m I.M and 6th in the 100m I.M.

KANE HAGGETT won 1 GOLD in the 18-24 yrs category in the 50m Freestyle, and a BRONZE medal in the 100m Backstroke, he also came 4th in the 100m Freestyle.

Derventio eXcel went 1-2-3 in the 50m Backstroke with Zichen Liu taking the GOLD, James Lovatt the SILVER and Kane Haggett the Bronze.

All four lads are now looking forward to next weekend as part of a 29 strong team competing in the Midland Short Course Championships in Corby.
