Burns Open Meet 2011 - Day 2

There was no time wasted at the start of Day 2 at the Burns Open Meet.

In the first race of the day for DX, Molly Renshaw took 5 secs off her PB set in Dec 2010 to record a British Champs qualification time of 5:04.15. Abbie Wood claimed gold in the same event with a time of 5:31 missing both the 100m Fly and 400m IM NQT's by a small margin.

Zichen claimed a bronze medal in the 200m Backstroke with a PB time of 2:05.49 - great swimming in hard training - can't wait to see how fast he goes when "shaved and tapered" at British Champs. Zichen now returns to China for 3 weeks where he will train for 6 hours a day with his old club, before we leave for our training camp in Tenerife.

In the 100m Fly, Hannah Jones showed she has some speed as well as great endurance and was the pick of the DX girls with a new best time of 1:05.96, a gold medal (13 yrs) and a bronze medal in the junior final. The 50m Breaststroke saw PB's from Sarah Vasey (35.36) and Molly Renshaw (35.19), with Jodie Hawksworth winning gold in a time of 34.18 - just 0.1 secs outside the QT for British Champs.

The boys in the 50m Backstroke kept the great momentum going from the DX team with best times from Matt Smithurst (29.67) and Kane Haggett (27.64) - going close to the British Champs QT of 27.44. Zichen (Silver 27.44) and James Lovatt (27.83) showed our strength in depth in the mens backstroke.

Abbie Wood swam to another PB and gold medal, this time in the 200m IM (2:37.22) and followed this up with an oustanding 2:48.19 200m Breaststroke topping the podium once again. Throughout the weekend, Abbie continually stepped up against much older and bigger girls.... and beat them!!!

Mischa Menzies swam to a 4 secs PB of 4:27 in the 400m Freestyle - he's now taken 13 secs off his PB since joining DX in September and will hope to drop another 12 secs in the coming 6 months to gain his first NQT.

Another swimmer reaping the rewards of joining our team in September is Tyler-Anne Black whose 28.69 50m Freestyle puts he into a new league of swimming. Before joining DX, Tyler's best time long course was 31.25 - wow what an improvement!

The 200m Breaststroke was yet another succesful event for us - Molly Renshaw breaking her PB by 2.5 secs to record a blistering time of 2:33.05 pushing British No.1 Stacey Tadd all the way to the wall in the final - great race experience against an experienced international athlete. Jodie Hawksworth claimed silver in the Junior final with a 2:38.29.

There were solid sprint freestyle times from Evie Keane (28.40) and Hannah Sullivan (28.77) whilst in the 50m Fly, Matt Smithurst set a new best time of 27.58.

In the Mens 100m Freestyle, James Lovatt recorded an impressive 52.76 (100m Freestyle), Connor Smith narrowly missed the British Champs QT with a 55.53 and Kevin Wallbank swam to a PB of 58.54.

The final event of the day was the Womens 100m Backstroke; Emily Allsopp was 7th in the junior Final with a time of 1:06.98 while Eve Farnsworth swam a negative split 1:07.83 for a new PB.

Overall - what a superb meet for the team.
We looked good in our new kit and swam even better!
