DX Shine at Midland Winter Short Course Championships!

DX swimmers continued on from the success of their teammates at the City of Leicester meet last weekend and were out in force at the Midland Winter Short Course Championships 2012 held in Corby last weekend.

DX swimmers won a host of Championships and medals, achieved National Qualifying times and got many personal best times.  Swimmers were racing tough and tired and most had a bunch of swims to contend with. 

Firstly for the medals.

Jamie Ingram kicked off the DX medal haul with a Silver in the Junior 1500m Free smashing his personal best time by 34 seconds in his first Winter Championships.  Jamie went on to hit several more pb's including 4th in the 400m Freestyle and 200m Fly!

This was followed in the finals session by GOLD and SILVER medals in the Girls Senior 100m Breaststroke by Jodie Hawksworth and Molly Renshaw respectivley.  This was a great race between the friends and teammates, which also saw Abbie Wood and Imogen Clark win SILVER and BRONZE medals respectivley.

Molly Renshaw then went onto win GOLD in the Senior 100m I.M and BRONZE in the 400m I.M, and in a reverse of the Breaststroke Jodie Hawksworth took SILVER with Abbie Wood taking SILVER in the Junior 100m and 400m I.M Category.

Kevin Wallbank then won the BRONZE medal  in the Senior 200m I.M, in his first year as a senior, in one of many personal best times.

Tyler-Ann Black won her first individual medal with a BRONZE medal at a Winter Championships in the Junior Girls 50m Freestyle

DX Captain Hannah Jones won GOLD in the Girls Junior 200m Fly in a toughly fought neck and neck race, also finishing 4th in the Senior Championship.  She also won SILVER in the Junior Girls 100m Fly.

Kane Haggett took the 1st of his Sprint Free titles in the Mens 100m Free, a final in which he dominated holding on strong to take GOLD winning in a time of 49.93 seconds, first time sub 50 seconds!!

Derventio Men's team then took BRONZE in the 4 x 100m Medley relay with the team of Matthew Smithurst, Danny Anderson, Kevin Wallbank and Kane Haggett.  The Girls team then matched this with a team of Tyler-Ann Black, Alana Simpson, Eve Farnsworth and Molly Renshaw.

On Day 2 DX continued with the medals, places and personal best times and included in this was ELLE PRYCE who smashed her personal best time in the 100m Back in the heats and then on the first leg of the Junior relay to achieve the first DX female NATIONAL QUALIFYING TIME of the 2012-2013 season!

In the finals session DX saw a 1-2-3 in the Girls 50m Breaststroke with Sarah Vasey winning the Senior GOLD in a new Senior and Junior County record, Jodie Hawksworth won SILVER and Imogen Clark won Senior BRONZE and Junior GOLD (Imogen had broken the County Senior and Junior records earlier in the heats).

Molly Renshaw and Abbie Wood were then in the 200m I.M final where Molly took SILVER in  the Senior and Abbie Wood took GOLD in the Junior Category.

Captain Kane Haggett then went on to complete his sprint double by winning the Men's 50m Free, and then 1 race later racing tough to win the BRONZE in the 100m I.M. 

Inbetween Kane's finals the girls were back in action this time with Molly Renshaw dominated the race taking GOLD in the Senior 200m Breaststroke, whilst 13 year old Abbie Wood fought back strong to take GOLD in the Junior Championship and SILVER in the senior championship.  Jodie Hawksworth also swam a very impressive 4th place in her "distance" event.

Imogen Clark in her 3rd final of the meet won the SILVER medal in the 50m Fly Junior Championship.

To finish off the meet DX girls won SILVER in the 4 x 100m Medley relay with a team of Eve Farnsworth, Jodie Hawksworth, Hannah Jones and Tyler-Ann Black.  The DX Junior team (under 14 years) were also an impressive 4th position with a team of Elle Pryce, Abbie Wood, Kay Goulden and Imogen Clark.

Mischa Menzies - 400m Free (7th)
Danny Anderson - 50m Breast (7th), 200m Breast (5th)
Eve Farnsworth - 50m Back (7th) 200m Back (7th)
James Latham - 200m Breast (6th), 100m Breast (7th)
Matthew Smithurst - 100m I.M (7th)
Sam Butler also swam to a number of personal best times and came 4th in the Men's Junior 100m Fly.

Other swimmers putting in some great personal best times and tough swims in a variety of events, including some of their non-specialist events were; Ben Goodall, Jess Cross, Kathryn Roworth, Stephanie Williams, Matt Mounsey, Sophie Critchlow, Imogen Morris.

WELL DONE DX!!  Now onto Plymouth!!!!!!
