DX Swimmers break 9 LC County records in March/April and May - including the oldest standing record!

Derventio eXcel swimmers have continued in excellent form in the spring months of 2010 smashing further county records.

For those that are new to the county the county records are split into Junior (16 years or under on the day the record was achieved) and Open which is any age.

During April and May further county records have been smashed by Derventio eXcel's swimmers:

• 14 year old CATHERINE WILLIAMS rewrote the record books by breaking the oldest county record for the Ladies Junior 1500m Freestyle at the Swansea open meet last weekend. The 1500m Freestyle Long Course Junior record was swam 30 years ago by Michelle Willey at 18.24.80, Catherine not only smashed this record by 44 seconds but also beat the Open county record of 17.47.38 held by Erica Lack of Chesterfield. Catherine's new record time of 17.40.72 is also the 4th fastest 14 year old female time this year so far.

April 2010 also saw 9 county records tumble:

COMMONWEALTH GAMES TRIALS MARCH/APRIL 2010:

• 16 year old EMILY ALLSOPP broke her own Junior and Open 50m Backstroke records in a time of 30.74. .

• LIVVI SEFTON Derventio eXcel girls captain also broke a 10 year old county record in the 50m Butterfly in a time of 28.67 to beat Heather Dilks of Trident's former record.

• EMILY ALLSOPP, MOLLY RENSHAW, LIVVI SEFTON and EVIE KEANE swam the 4 x 100m Medley Relay to a Silver medal and county record of 4.21.96 to beat Derventio eXcel's old mark of 4.27.93 set in 2007.

• The 4 x 100m Freestyle relay team of EVIE KEANE, FRANCES MARSHALL, EMILY ALLSOPP and CATHERINE WILLIAMS (Silver mdeal) also gained a county record of 4.00.54.

• Flying the flag for the Men was ZICHEN LIU who broke the Open 100m Backstroke record in a time of 58.44.

Following this the DX swimmers then went onto compete at the Derventio eXcel open meet held Easter Weekend where 3 more records were broken. With this being our own meet DX swimmers were competing for their home clubs:

• MOLLY RENSHAW (DX and Ripley Rascals) won the 200m Breaststroke in a new Junior County record time of 2.39.44.

• Club captain on the Boy's side CHRIS STEEPLES (DX and Etwall) broke his own 50m Breaststroke Open county record of 30.27 in a blistering time of 30.03. Chris is chasing the sub 30 second mark!

• ZICHEN LIU (DX and Swadlincote) went onto break another Backstroke Open record in the 200m event in a time of 2.06.61.

Well Done to all record holders...You are producing some of the fastest times ever seen by Derbyshire Swimmers!
