"DX Factor" in Swansea 2011 - Day 2

Day started off with two heats sessions in the first session many swimmers stepped up and continued the personal bests and final qualifications from yesterday.

Medals started in the first session with Gold medals coming from Emily Allsopp, Lucy Wood, Oli Davidson and Kane Haggett in the 50m Backstroke.

Silver medals came from Evie Keane and Eve Farnsworth and Bronze medals from Hannah Sullivan and Chloe Johnson in the 50m Backstroke.

400m Freestyle: A bronze medal came from Hannah Jones in a personal best time.

400m I.M: Ben Goodall put in another class performance working his way through the field to take the Gold medal in a time of 4.46. which is under last years British Championship qualification. Another Gold came from Chris Steeples as he powered his way through in the Breaststroke witha 1.12 split to win in a time of 4.38.81. A silver medal came from Matt Smithurt and Bronze medals came from Matt Cross in his first ever long course 400m I.M and Kev Wallbank.

Onto the finals session and again the support was great with Sue Keane loosing her voice.

100m Free: Evie Keane powered her way to a silver medal with Emily Allsopp and Tyler-Ann Black taking bronze medals, Tyler just missing out on the national qualification in this event.

200m Free: Connor Smith took Gold in convincing style in 2.00 with Ben Goodall taking silver in the same race.

200m Breaststroke: Molly Renshaw just missed the 15 years British and English Records in bothe the heats and finals, and will look to go faster in the summer when rested. Molly took the Gold medal by over 20m. Following in her footsteps Abbie Wood also took Gold in the 200m Breaststroke spliting a 100m pb at the 100m mark she won by approx 25m and recorded a new personal best time of 2.42.00.

Sarah Vasey took Silver in the 200m Breaststroke capturing 2 swims under the long course national qualifying times, showing that she is bringing the time back down again. Leah Hollingsworth also captured silver in her 200m Breaststroke.

200m Backstroke: Oli Davidson was the only DX swimmer to win a medal in this event and the medal was Gold. He led from the start to swim two class swims to lower his personal best by 6 seconds to a time of 2.27.82 seconds. Ed Borysiak also competed in this event and posted a personal best time in the heats and in the 200m Free. Kev Wallbank also swam the heats of this event and achieved a National Qualifying time.

200m Fly: Abbie Wood and Hannah Jones took Gold in this event winning their races by leading from the start, Jodie Hawksworth also posted 2 personal best times in this event and took Silver.

100m Fly: Kev Wallbank swam a very close final to take the Bronze medal and a national qualifying time, Matt Smithurst took Silver.

200m I.M: Completing a Hat trick of Gold medals on day 2 Abbie Wood took Gold in a time of 2.32.63. Molly Renshaw took Gold in a great personal best of 2.20. Jodie Hawksworth also competed and achieved a National Qualifying time of 2.27. Molly, Jodie, Emily and Sarah have all qualified for the Skins events on the last day!

50m Free: Last event of the session and Kane Hagget showed he means business when he won by over 4 metres again going 23. Connor Smith also won Gold, just missing his national qualifying time in a time of 25.72. Jamie Ingram swam a personal best of 29.81 to take Bronze medal, he also made the final and posted a personal best in the 200m Free and just missed his pb in the 100m Fly final. Rob Ainley also swam a great 50m personal best time.

Big shout outs also have to go to Hannah Kingdon for making her first final in the 200m Breaststroke, Louise Ratcliffe and Jess Cross for swimming personal bests and making finals. Mischa Menzies for a great 50m Free.

DX won another 34 medals today; 16 Gold; 9 Silver and 9 Bronze bringing the total to 56 medals so far, we are on target to beat last years total.

Tomorrow there are plenty more pb's and medals up for grabs not to mention the Skins events.
