National Youth Championships

The British Gas National Youth Championships took place in Sheffield from 3rd to 7th August with 17 Derventio eXcel swimmers competing in 48 individual events and all 6 relays.

Day One

There were PB's in the heats from Molly Renshaw (400m IM), Scott Tovell-Coleman (400m Frs), Kane Haggett (100m Back), Cat Williams (100m Frs), Fran Marshall (100m Frs), Harry Webster (200m Brs), Gina Tovell-Coleman (200m Back) and Evie Keane (200m Back).

Cat Williams finished 16th in the 1500m Freestyle, with a PB of 9:23.45 at the 800m split.

The Boys 4x100m Freestyle team of Kane Haggett, Chris Steeples, Rob Guest and Zichen Liu were 14th, a ten place improvement from their 2009 finish of 24th.

Harry Webster, in the 15/16 years 200m Breaststroke semi-finals improved his PB again with a time of 2:27.97 which moved him up to 15th place overall.

Chris Steeples, fresh from his GB debut at the European Junior Championships, swam faster again with a time of 2:18.37, enough to make him the fastest qualifier for the final by over a second.

Zichen Liu swam just outside his PB with a time of 58.56 in the semi-finals of the 100m Backstroke but still comfortably qualified for the final in 7th place.

Emily Allsopp improved on her time and position from the heats of the 200m Backstroke and in doing so, booked her lane for the final with a time of 2:21.22
