HANNAH AND MOLLY WIN AT AMBER VALLEY SPORTS AWARDS!

Derventio eXcel swimmers HANNAH JONES and MOLLY RENSHAW last night won the Amber Valley Junior sports women of the year award.

Pictured above is Hannah Jones. Hannah is a member of the fab four relay team that won a Bronze medal at the National Age Group Championships on August 1st 2010. Hannah also swam to 5th and 10th place in the national finals of the 200m and 100m Fly. Earlier in the year Hannah qualified for the British Championships and Commonwealth Games trials in March 2010, and was one of the youngest swimmers in the country to qualify for this senior event. Hannah also won Gold and Silver medals at the regional championships in June.

Molly Renshaw, who could not be at the awards evening last night as she is taking a well deserved holiday won joint honours with her teammate and friend of Junior Sports Women of the year. Molly swam an amazing season winning a Silver medal at the Commonwealth Trials in the 4 x 100m Medley relay with her Derventio eXcel teammates. She then went on to finish 4th in a new county record in the 14/15 years 200m Breaststroke at the National Youth championships and then headed to Sunderland for the National Senior Championships. Molly finished 4th again. The 14 year old finished behind 3 senior Great British international swimmers. Molly also won Gold and Bronze medals at the regional short course championships earlier in the year. This is a great achievement and shows her progress along the Long Term Athlete Development is on the right track.

Both Girls who are members of Derventio eXcel - Derbyshires elite performance squad were part of a 29 strong team that competed at the National Championships this year.

A big mention has to go to Ripley Rascals swimming club. Both girls originate from Rascals in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire, Starting off at Rascals, their coaches at the club headed by Tracey Bostock recognised their talent and potential and when the girls were selected for additional training sessions with Derventio encouraged them to progress their swimming further and to train with other talented swimmers, some the best in the country. From these additional sessions Molly and Hannah were then identified to move into the full time squad and have enjoyed working together and competing together as they continue working to fulfill their dreams.

Molly and Hannah will now wait to hear if they have been short-listed for the Debyshire Sport Awards later in the year.

Well Done Girls!
