Derventio eXcel swimmers had their first competition of 2013 last weekend.
preparation for their performance at the DX Open Meet in February 2013!
Swimmers had put in a really hard Christmas and New Year training programme both here in the UK and in the USA, and have put together a great block of training leading into the busy end of the season.
Swimmers swam in a range of events at the meet and raced tough, honing their racing skills in preparation for their races at the DERVENTIO EXCEL FEBRUARY FESTIVAL 9TH/10TH FEBRUARY 2013!
All swimmers gave some solid performances, with some gaining great personal best times, qualifying times, and above all many swimmers moved their skills and racing forward under hard training.
FRANCESCA MUIR-HARRIS showed all of her hard work over the past 2 years is paying off when she achieved her first NATIONAL QUALIFYING time by knocking out a 6 second personal best time on the 200m Free to qualify in 2.13.31!
KEVIN WALLBANK gained his 3rd British Open Qualifying time by swimming a 3 second personal best time in the 200m I.M. Kevin also achieved personal best times and National Qualifying time in the 100m Breast and narrowly missed his British Open time along with the 100m Fly. Kevin also achieved his first DX club record in the 200m I.M a great achievment at just 16 years of age. Kevin also went on to win 2nd place in the overall category.
Kevin also won BRONZE in the 100m Fly.
MATT CROSS added to his NATIONAL QUALIFYING TIMES when he swam 2 personal best times in the 200m I.M and then 200m Back. Matt also won the overall category and
SILVER in the 400m Free, BRONZE in the 100m Free.
JODIE HAWKSWORTH won GOLD in the 50m and 200m Breaststroke 15 yrs + and achieved her 3rd British Open Qualifying time in the 200m Breaststroke event in a well raced swim and achieved her 50m/100m/200m National Qualifying times too.
SARAH VASEY won BRONZE in the 50m Breaststroke also achieving her 50m Breaststroke National Time, along with IMOGEN CLARK who at 13 years also achieved the 50m Open Breaststroke National Qualifying time.
ABBIE WOOD also won the overall category achieving some great personal best times along the way, and winning a host of medals including GOLD in the 13/14 years 100m Breast, 200m I.M and 200m Breast.
JESSICA CROSS won 3rd place in the overall category also, swimming a host of events and swam personal best times and moved on her racing skills and times from the Plymouth meet just over a month ago.
DX also took a 1-2-3 in the Girls 15 years + 100m Breaststroke with MOLLY RENSHAW, JODIE HAWKSWORTH and SARAH VASEY swimming solid Jan swims.
Following shortly on from this ABBIE WOOD took Gold and IMOGEN CLARK bronze in the 13/14yrs 100m Breaststroke.
KANE HAGGETT won the Men's 50m Free. Kane will fly out to Belgium with teammate MOLLY RENSHAW to compete for Great Britain at the Flanders Cup.
HANNAH JONES won GOLD in a skillful 200m Fly and agonizingly close to British Open QT took BRONZE in a great best time in the 100m Fly.
JODIE HAWKSWORTH won GOLD in the Open 50m Breaststroke and GOLD in the 15yrs + 200m Breaststroke in a British Open Qualifying time, holding her stroke well on the longer of her events!
