Derventio eXcel swimmers from both the full time and development squads were out in force at the Derbyshire County Championships over 2 weekends at the end of Feb and beginning of March.
There were lots of personal best times, tough swimming, regional qualifications for DXDS swimmers and medals in abundance. There were also many County Junior and Senior Champions and a County record.
Jamie Ingram won the 1500m Free by over 28 seconds to break former DX swimmer and DXDS coach Scott Tovell-Coleman's Junior County record. Jamie recoreded a time of 16.12.14!

With Derventio being the elite county squad for Derbyshire the county championships is one of the main opportunities for swimmers to go back and swim for their home clubs, and in most cases giving back a thankyou for the clubs that started off their swimming careers.

Most swimmers at this meet were looking for a great opportunity to race short course at the still new state of the art facilitiy at the ARC centre in Matlock. For others it was a great chance to fine tune their swims ready for one of the biggest competitions of the year - The British International Open, which is due to take place 7th-10th March in Leeds, where Derventio have a record number of swimmers qualified with a whopping 14 swimmers.
So onto the County Results, here are some of the notable performances:
DX/DXDS 1-2-3 in 12 years 100m Butterfly with Matt Cartwright taking GOLD, Matt Cross SILVER and Josh Bestwick BRONZE.
Colin Cameron taking GOLD in 13 yrs 100m Fly.
Mia Slevin took GOLD in 200m Backstroke, whilst in the 10 years age group Abbie Gregory took BRONZE.
Lucy Cummings took SILVER and Alice Richards BRONZE in the 11 years 200m Backstroke.
Krissy Tomlinson won Top Girl award, 11 Gold medals and 5 Silver medals.
In the 12 yrs Girls 200m Back and 50m Backstroke there was a double 1-2-3 with Krissy Tomlinson, Alex Potts and Leah Beal taking the medals.
William Brookes took Silver in the 10 years 50m Backstroke. Whilst Dan Makepeace and Archie Vanes took the top two spots for the 11 years age group, and Matt Holt and Matt Cartwright the same in the 12 years category. Aston Waddingham also topped the 13 years age.
Mia Slevin then went onto capture her second Gold of the championships in the 50m Freestyle, whilst Kelsie Geary took Bronze in the 11 years age group.
The Belper boys were back in action in the 200m Free where William Brookes, Sam Frost and Matt Cross took Gold in their respective age groups, Jason Lockwood and Matt Holt took Silver and Casper Raynard took Bronze medals.
On to the Girls 100m Breaststroke event and Kelsie Geary took her second medal of the Championshipps with a Bronze. Alex Potts and Krissy Tomlinson finished 1-2 in the 12 year age group.
In the Boys 50m Freestyle swimmers took 10 medals. Jason Lockwood, Matt Holt, Joshua Horobin, Matt Mounsey, Kevin Wallbank, James Latham and Kane Haggett won Gold, Jamie Ingram took Silver, and Harvey Waddingham, Jack Smith took Bronze medals.
No fewer than 15 swimmers competed in the Girls 800m Freestyle, with a lot of the younger swimmers swimming this event for the first time. Most notably Hannah Jones competed in this event by swimming the whole 800m Butterfly and winning a Bronze medal!!

In the Boys 100m Backstroke Matt Cross took Gold, whilst Matt Holt took Silver in the 12 years age. Aston Waddingham took Silver in the 13 years category, and Joe Doody took Bronze in the 14 years age. Sam Butler became County Champion in the 15 years age group, whilst Matt Smithurst and Kane Haggett took Gold and Silver in the 20+ category.
For the Girls 50m Butterfly Mia Slevin and Alex Potts became County Champions, with Krissy Tomlinson and Abbie Gregory took Silver's and Leah Beal Bronze.
In the Boys 200m Fly, Kevin Wallbank, Matt Cross, Colin Cameron and Casper Raynard became County Champions. Jamie Ingram and William Brookes took Silver and Joshua Bestwick took Bronze.
In the Girls 50m Freestyle Imogen Clark, Tyler-Ann Black and Jess Cross took Gold, Elle Pryce, Kathryn Roworth and Molly Renshaw took Silver and Stephanie Williams and Alana Simpson took Bronze in their respective categories.
In the Boys 50m Backstroke (14 years +) Kane Haggett took Gold, Jamie Ingram and Sam Butler took Silver, Callum Gascoyne took Bronze.
For the 13 years Girls 100m Breaststroke DX trained swimmers took a 1-2-3 with Imogen Clark Gold, Imogen Morris Silver and Chloe Bates Bronze. Abbie Wood took Gold in the 14 years, Sophie Critchlow took Gold in the 15 years and Molly Renshaw took Gold in the 16 years categories.
In the Boys 14 years 100m Fly Jamie Ingram took Gold. In the 15 years Sam Butler took Gold and in the 16 years Kevin Wallbank took Gold.
In the 200m I.M Imogen Clark, Abbie Wood Kathryn Roworth , Jess Cross and Molly Renshaw all became County Champions, with Imogen Morris, Sophie Critchlow, Alana Simpson taking Silver and Elle Pryce taking Bronze in their respective age groups.
In the men's 200m Free, Kevin Wallbank and Sam Butler took Gold, Kane Haggett Silver and Jamie Ingram took Bronze in their age categories.
In the Girls 400m I.M, Molly Renshaw, Abbie Wood, Mia Slevin, Abbie Gregory, Krissy Tomlinson, Imogen Clark all were crowned County Champions, with Alice Richards, Leah Beal, Imogen Morris and Sophie Critchlow took Silver and Chloe Bates and Stephanie Williams took Bronze.
Following was the Boys 200m Breaststroke where Jason Lockwood and Daniel Makepeace took Gold and Silver medals respectivley in the 11 years age group, Matt Holt and Matt Cross took Gold and Bronze medals in the 12 years age group, Joshua Horobin took Silver in the 13 years age group, and Jamie Ingram took Gold and Jack Smith Bronze in the 14 years age group. Matt Mounsey took Gold in the 15 years age group also, whilst James Latham captured Silver in the 17/19 year category.
In the Older Girls 50m Fly Stephanie Williams, Hannah Jones and Tyler-Ann Black took Gold ahead of Olivia Dickinson and Alana Simpson with Silvers.

Abbie Wood also took Bronze in the 14 years age group, with Kathryn Roworth and Sophie Critchlow taking Silvre and Bronze in the 15 year age group. Eve Farnsworth won Gold in the 16 years age group and Jessica Cross won Gold in the 17/19 years age group.
