Derventio eXcel's Ben Goodall competed for Great Britain for the first time today when he raced in the LEN Open Water Swimming Cup in Eilat, Israel.
Ben swam in the 10km event in the Red Sea which took him just 2 hours to complete. Ben finished 13th in a World Class field, in a time of 2.00.52
This event was used as the final selection event for the Great Britain European Junior team, and by finishing 2nd in the youth category Ben has qualified to swim for Great Britain for the second time at the European Junior Championships in the 5km event 13th-15th July in Kocaeli, Turkey!
Ben who last week won Gold and Bronze medals swimming for England at the School Games at the Olympic Park flew out to Israel last weekend and was part of a World Class Open Water team including current GB Olympic medalists Kerry-Ann Payne and David Davies. The team have spent the last few days training in the open water enviroment and Ben has learnt some valuble race stratedgies and knowledge from the best and has throughly enjoyed the taste of international racing.
